Helping Strays offers an opportunity for young children to have an impact on the animals, even though they are too young to directly interact with the shelter dogs and cats. Rescue Readers allows children of all ages to come to the shelter and read to the animals. There are many benefits to having a program like this. Research shows reading can have a comforting effect on animals, plus children can improve their reading skills with a non-judgmental being. Reading to an animal often encourages children to read more as well, often to their own pets at home. Rescue Readers is only offered at certain times so please contact the shelter for more information.
