On March 23, 2013, Helping Strays, the Humane Society of Monroe County will host its 9th Annual ‘A Cause for Paws’ Benefit at the Falls in Columbia, Illinois. While this benefit is our largest fundraiser of the year, it is also a celebration of the tremendous accomplishments of the past year. Held at The Falls in Columbia, IL, There will be silent and live auctions, games, and raffles.
Prior to Helping Strays, the majority of the animals in the county pound were euthanized after five days. Today, there is no one to help the lost and abandoned animals if Helping Strays does not rescue them. Thanks to our generous supporters and the commitment of our volunteers, we are able to continue to rescue most of the adoptable animals from the pound! In 2012, Helping Strays rescued and successfully adopted out 315 animals for a total of more than 2,350 animals in the past nine years. All of these animals would have otherwise been euthanized at the county pound or died on the streets.
We need the help of all animal lovers in the community to make Helping Strays a success. We are a no-kill shelter, a completely independent organization, not affiliated with any other humane society or group. We do not receive funding from any government or other agency. This makes your support vital to our continued success and our future growth. We are asking for your presence and financial support at our 2013 benefit. Will you please be generous in your support for the Cause by donating items to the auction (item donation no later than March 13th please) and bringing your friends on March 23 for a wonderful evening to help the animals? Tickets for the event are available at $60 each or a table of 10 for $540. The ticket price includes dinner and an open bar for the evening.
Silent Auction items this year include a lovely Everything Italian gift basket with a serving platter and bowl from Italy filled with Italian grocery products from Viviano's, a bottle of Italian wine, a Italian music CD, and a gift certificate from Charlie Gitto's. For cat lovers, there is a Metal Art Welcome Sign. Several local microbreweries are donating some of there finest. There are always many tables of items, so expect to find something you can't live without.
The Wheel of Rescue gives attendees a chance to get a great item for the price of a raflle ticket. How about a hot air balloon ride? Maybe you would prefer an iPad 3? For those looking to furnish a room, Carol House has given us a $1000 gift certificate.
The live auction is always a lot of fun. W Photography in Columbia has donated studio portraits for six lucky pets, which will also be displayed on the Helping Strays trailer for the next two years. Sports fans can bid on a Cardinals Package: Four Field Box Seats-which includes parking, access to the Cardinal Lounge, and in seat food and drink service. An original painting by local artist Charles Houska will also be auctioned off. There are many more great items, just waiting for your bid.
