3rd Annual Mutt & Me recap

You had to be there

Fine weather, great vendors, a sumptuous spread with coffee courtesy of Our Coffee House and Cafe, and a really fine commemorative T-shirt all helped to make this year's Mutt & Me great fun!. 219 registered attendees walk or ran with the pack. The 5K was officiated by Toolen's Running Start, and the final times will be posted on their website. The overall winner of the 5K, in the men's division, was David Saunders. The women's division overall winner was Toni Becker.

Meanwhile, back at Bolm-Schuhcraft Park, BallooniticRN Diane Cross, entertained all by creating astounding critters with balloons. She also has great fashion sense. Vendors Bea's Bites, The Belleville Area Humane Society, Dogs in My Home, JFire's, Kritter Kare, Paws to Train and Waterloo Feed and Pet Supply brought along some great things to add to the festive atmosphere, making sure there were treats for the dogs as well as the humans!

Mutt & Me only works with the support of our sponsors.  Katie Neihoff of Physique Design provided the wonderful design for this year's T-shirt, as well as designing the Thank You banner, a copy of which you see above. This bright, fun shirt was only available to this year's Mutt & Me participants and Katie has set the bar pretty high for next year's designer. The banner itself was graciously donated by New Signs Fast.

Thanks also to our T-shirt sponsors: Bea's Bites, Joe, Gale, Alex and Rachel Bell, Charlie's Columbia Carstar, Columbia MarketRosalie Fauerbach, Laurie and Mike Grubb, Mayor Kevin and Paula Hutchinson, JFire's, Khoury Pharmacy Healthmart, Cari and Sean Mahoney, Maverick Technologies LLC, McAuliffe Chiropractic, Midland State Bank,  Nattie and Guinness, Purina, Reifschneider's Grill and Grape, Rooster's Health Foods, Rural King, Summit Sign & Graphics, T&M Automotive, Terra Drill, Inc, and wphotography.

And one final thank you, to all the volunteers who made this possible.  Check in, bag distribution, food, water, direction at the turns, raffle ticket sales, you name it, a volunteer did it. Volunteers tracked down sponsors and volunteers cleaned up after everyone left.  But we know they don't really do it for Helping Strays.  The dog in Helping Stray's logo was modeled after a real dog, a thoroughly charming mixed breed named Misha.  Misha was one of Helping Stray's first rescues and she and her owner still come to events.  She is obviously well loved, but it looks like Misha hasn't forgotten her foster dad.  Our volunteers work hard because of all the dogs and cats who, like Misha, just need a place a warm safe place to sleep, until their forever family finds them.
